Yes, you may enjoy a picnic lunch anywhere on the arch grounds, though please keep in mind there are no tables. Our gardeners have done amazing work on the landscape features throughout the park, so if the weather is nice, a walk around the grounds is a great addition to your day. This includes the Gateway Arch and grounds (about 62 acres), plus another 30 acres or so encompassing the Old Courthouse, Luther Ely Smith Square, and a good bit of the surrounding streets (managed as easements).
How large is the park? Is there anything to see besides the Gateway Arch? Pets may not be left tied to light poles, handrails, trees, or other objects. Pet excrement must be immediately removed from the park or disposed of in a trash container. Pets are not permitted in the Gateway Arch Visitor Center or in the Old Courthouse (t his does not apply to service dogs as defined under the ADA). Yes, leashed and well-behaved pets are allowed and encouraged on the grounds of Gateway Arch National Park. Our parking page has information about this. The last tram ride to the top goes up about an hour before closing. During the winter we are open 9am to 6pm.
